Aston Cord Energy Services Ltd provided Dartington Hall Trust (DHT) with a turn key solution to provide a new dedicated boiler house, biomass boiler and two heat mains.
DHT wanted to move away from oil fired heating and opted for a 1 MW Viessmann chip biomass boiler to provide the heating and hot water to the hotel and several office spaces.
Working on the Grade 1 listed English Heritage site was a privilege. All works were undertaken while the site was open and fully operational which meant weekly meetings between our project manager and DHT operations manager.
The project took 26 weeks from start to finish including the heat main installation and all internal connection works to link the new system to the existing system.
The Viessmann biomass boiler was delivered on an articulated lorry directly from Germany. Weighing 13 tonnes and in two sections for ease of installation it was lifted into place via crane before the roof was built.
The boiler delivery date dictated the scheduling on this project and all other aspects were fitted around this.
A specialist team from Viessmann helped to assemble the boiler on delivery along with Aston Cord Energy Services Ltd engineers.
The fuel store is designed to hold around 180m3 of wood chips or two full articulated lorry loads.
The chips are delivered into the feed auger via a walking floor. The support beams are set into a polished concrete floor.
Hydraulic rams slowly move the wings that push the wood chips into the auger feed system and into the boiler for burning.
As principal contractor Aston Cord Energy Services Ltd took on CDM responsibilities and managed all elements of the works throughout.
